12 Excavators, 20 Changfans Seized in Latest Anti-Galamsey Operation – Lands Ministry

She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to intensifying the fight against illegal mining

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced major progress in its latest clampdown on illegal mining, also known as galamsey, following joint operations conducted this week by the Blue Water Guards and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

In a media briefing on Friday, October 17, the Ministry’s Director of Communications, Ama Mawusi, revealed that over 12 excavators and 20 changfan machines were seized during coordinated efforts across illegal mining hotspots in the Eastern and Western Regions—particularly within forest reserves and along river bodies.

“We recovered about 12 excavators, 24 pumping machines, 20 changfans, five motorbikes, four excavator batteries, some computer monitors, two heavy-duty water pumps, multiple fuel drums, and several makeshift structures,” Mawusi said.

She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to intensifying the fight against illegal mining, stressing that the government will continue to deploy all necessary resources to protect Ghana’s water bodies, forests, and natural environment.

The confiscated equipment is expected to be processed or destroyed in line with national anti-galamsey protocols.
