Interior Minister Reassures Yagbonwura of Government’s Commitment to Restoring Peace in Sawla-Bole

Minister calls for dialogue and cooperation to end ongoing conflict in Savannah Region

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has assured the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, of the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in the conflict-stricken Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region. His assurance came during a closed-door meeting at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo, following weeks of violent clashes that have led to the loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of residents in the area. Addressing the media after the meeting, the Interior Minister expressed deep concern over the recent disturbances and called for sustained collaboration between traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and security agencies to resolve the tensions. “We have taken note of all the concerns and assured the Yagbonwura that government will do everything humanly possible to restore peace,” the minister said. “But we need his cooperation, and that of all other stakeholders. What dialogue can solve, force cannot.” He emphasized that peaceful engagement and adherence to agreed solutions are essential to ending the hostilities. He further noted that government would uphold its part of any agreement and expects the same commitment from all parties involved. The visit comes in the wake of renewed unrest in the Sawla-Bole enclave, which continues to pose a serious threat to the region’s peace and development. The Minister reiterated that restoring calm and protecting lives remains a top priority for the government. “We are hopeful that after all the lengthy discussions and the conclusions we have reached, everyone will play their part. Government is committed to doing so,” he added.
