Akwatia By-Election: Military Deployment Will Be Based on Need – Police

Police assure residents of security, say military will remain on standby unless situation escalates.

The Ghana Police Service has assured residents of Akwatia that the military will only be deployed during the upcoming by-election if absolutely necessary.

Speaking to the media, the Director-General of Police Operations, COP Vance Baba Gariba, clarified that the military would be placed on standby and would not be directly involved unless the situation requires it.

“The military will only be on standby. If we need them, then we will deploy them. But if there is no need, there will be no military presence. They are simply on standby,” COP Gariba stated.

He urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding, encouraging eligible voters to turn out in large numbers to cast their ballots.

“I want to reassure all the good people of Akwatia to come out and exercise their franchise. The Ghana Police Service is fully committed to ensuring their safety throughout the process,” he said.

The Police Service emphasized its readiness to maintain law and order in collaboration with other security agencies, promising a peaceful, transparent, and incident-free by-election.
