Flagbearer hopeful and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Republic of Ghana, emphasizing a political journey marked by deep loyalty and personal sacrifice.
Speaking to enthusiastic supporters in Accra after filing his nomination on Thursday, August 28, Dr. Bawumia reflected on his years of service, recounting key moments where he chose party and country over personal and professional advancement.
“All my life, this country and this party have given me so much. I feel an overwhelming sense of duty to give back,” he stated.
He recalled resigning from a flourishing career at the Bank of Ghana in 2008 to support the NPP’s presidential campaign—a move that didn’t immediately translate into political success but, he said, demonstrated his commitment.
“That is why I didn’t hesitate to lay down my job at the BoG to assist the NPP’s quest for power in 2008. And indeed, I lost that gamble,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia also cited his resignation from the African Development Bank in 2012 to serve the party again, and his prominent role as the NPP’s lead witness in the 2013 election petition at the Supreme Court—an episode he described as a defining test of his resolve.
“That is why I did not hesitate to take the box at the Supreme Court as the star witness in 2013 to fight for the NPP,” he said, adding that he stood firm “even at the risk of mockery by our opponents.”
Demonstrating his sense of patriotism, Bawumia referenced his concession in the 2024 general election, saying it was a decision made in the interest of preserving national peace and stability.
“That is why I did not hesitate to concede the 2024 elections — to preserve the nation’s peace,” he stated.
Looking to the future, the former Vice President pledged to continue leading with the same dedication that has defined his political career.
“You can be sure that with Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, I shall not hesitate to put my all on the line for the NPP and for Ghana, as I have done before.”
