A joint security task force, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Isshaq Ibrahim, has arrested eight individuals engaged in illegal mining activities along the Agogoso and Offin Rivers near Nyinahin.
During the operation, the team destroyed 15 changfan machines and over 150 tents.
Additionally, more than 100 water pumping machines and 15 gold detectors were confiscated, and one other suspect believed to be an operations coordinator was also apprehended.
In an interview, Hon. Isshaq Ibrahim emphasized that the operation is part of a renewed effort to protect water bodies in the district.
“This exercise is to safeguard the sanctity of the rivers that serve thousands of residents in the Atwima Mponua District,” he said.
The DCE issued a strong warning to individuals involved in illegal mining (galamsey), urging them to desist from such activities.
He also called on the public to support the fight against environmental degradation by reporting galamsey operations in their communities.
