Police Recover Weapons and Key Evidence in Mpohor Gold Robbery Investigation

Breakthrough in investigation as police uncover weapons, clothing, and other key evidence linked to Mpohor gold shop heist

The Ghana Police Service has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the Mpohor gold shop robbery, recovering weapons, ammunition, clothing, and other crucial exhibits believed to be linked to the crime.

During an intensified anti-robbery operation, officers from the Kuntanase District in the Ashanti Region intercepted a suspicious white Toyota Sienta along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road. Upon spotting the patrol team, two unidentified men standing by the vehicle fled into a nearby bush.

A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle led to the discovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, a locally manufactured firearm, two loaded AK-47 magazines, additional rounds of ammunition, cowrie shells, a Huawei smartphone, identification documents, and various clothing items.

Police investigations revealed that several of the recovered items — particularly the hooded tops and wellington boots — closely matched those seen in CCTV footage from the Mpohor gold robbery incident.

Authorities say the discovery marks a major step forward in the ongoing manhunt for the suspects.

The Police Administration has praised the Kuntanase District patrol team for their alertness and commitment to duty. It further assured the public that all recovered evidence is being thoroughly examined, and nationwide security operations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.
