MTN Ghana has announced a scheduled six-hour nationwide disruption of its Mobile Money (MoMo) services on Sunday, August 17, 2025, to facilitate a critical system upgrade.
According to the telecom giant, the planned maintenance will run from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., during which all MoMo services — including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and merchant payments — will be temporarily unavailable.
With MTN MoMo serving as a key financial lifeline for millions across Ghana, the disruption is expected to impact both individuals and businesses that rely on the platform for day-to-day transactions. The service currently processes billions of cedis daily and plays a major role in driving financial inclusion nationwide.
Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology & Service Delivery Officer at Mobile Money Limited, urged users to plan ahead and complete any essential transactions before the scheduled downtime.
“Please be informed of a planned system upgrade on 17th August 2025, from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. During this period, all Mobile Money services will be unavailable. This upgrade is to improve our services to you. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding,” he said.
The upgrade aims to enhance service performance, strengthen security features against fraud, and prepare the platform for upcoming innovations in digital financial services.
MTN Ghana has assured users that all customer funds will remain safe, and full service will resume immediately after the upgrade is complete.
Customers and businesses are advised to make necessary arrangements to avoid disruptions to their financial operations during the affected hours.
