Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, has officially picked up nomination forms to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming flagbearer elections scheduled for January 2026.
A prominent figure in the Akufo-Addo administration, Dr. Adutwum is widely credited for spearheading transformative reforms in Ghana’s education sector, with a particular focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and the expansion of access to secondary education.
His entry into the flagbearer race adds to a growing roster of candidates vying to lead the party into the 2028 general elections. Political observers anticipate his candidacy will spark policy-focused discussions within the party, with many of his supporters highlighting his technocratic background and public service record as key strengths.
Meanwhile, on August 13, a coalition of over 490 NPP youth organisers — including both substantive and deputy constituency executives — picked up nomination forms on behalf of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The group described Dr. Bawumia as the party’s strongest candidate for the 2028 elections, citing his “exceptional leadership, proven track record, and clear vision for Ghana’s future.” Their action follows a strategic national meeting held on July 29, bringing together youth representatives from constituencies across the country.
