(VIDEO) Atwima Mponua DCE Leads Anti-Galamsey Operation, Urges Community Support

Hon. Isshaq Ibrahim vows to protect lands and water bodies as arrests and equipment seizures mark intensified crackdown on illegal mining

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Isshaq Ibrahim, has led a joint security operation to clamp down on illegal mining activities (commonly known as galamsey) in the district.

Speaking in an interview with Aduanaba Kofi Ampong Emmanuel on Mabesh FM 92.7MHz, Hon. Ibrahim revealed that the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Nkawie Divisional Police Command. The raid resulted in the arrest of more than two suspects and the seizure of illegal mining equipment.

“This operation should serve as a warning,” he stated. “I will not sit idly by while a few individuals destroy our lands and water bodies. Forestry offenders will face the full rigours of the law.”

The DCE emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting natural resources and maintaining environmental integrity, noting that illegal mining poses a serious threat to the health and livelihoods of local communities.

Hon. Isshaq Ibrahim also called on all stakeholders—including traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and community members—to actively support the government’s efforts in combating illegal mining.

“We can only win this fight if we come together as a united front,” he said.

The district continues to intensify efforts to restore degraded lands and ensure sustainable use of natural resources.
