President Mahama Makes Interim Appointments Following Tragic Helicopter Crash

President John Dramani Mahama has announced interim ministerial appointments following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6.

In a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President has directed the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to assume additional duties as Acting Minister for Defence with immediate effect.

Likewise, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, has been appointed as Acting Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

These temporary appointments follow the untimely deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. The two were among eight individuals who perished when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District while en route to Obuasi on official duty.

The President’s swift action is intended to ensure continuity in key ministries during this period of national mourning.

National flags are currently flying at half-mast across Ghana as the Ghana Armed Forces, in collaboration with relevant agencies, investigates the cause of the fatal crash.

President Mahama is expected to lead a national tribute in honour of the deceased, with official funeral arrangements already underway.
