Mahama Directs Ministers to Fast-Track E-Visa Services

President Charges Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs Ministers to Collaborate on Digital Travel Solution

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ministers for Interior, Transport, and and Foreign Affairs to collaborate on fast-tracking the rollout of e-visa services for Ghana.

The directive was given at the commissioning of new Air Navigation Services (ANS) and a Multi-Agency Command Centre, which will house the Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems. The President tasked the ministers with leveraging these new facilities to implement the e-visa system.

Speaking at the event, President Mahama emphasized that the API and PNR systems will be crucial for managing passenger and travel document data. He also outlined his vision for the initiative.

“I’m directing the Hon. Ministers for Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs to collaborate to ensure that this platform is expanded to enable us to implement this long-awaited e-services for the country. I’m charging them to extend this system to cover both the sea and land border posts, integrate with our e-gate systems, and the adoption of capabilities to extend, to perform the advancement of the cargo information system and also for the benefit of our customs,” he stated.

President Mahama noted that these directives would ensure the country fully benefits from the new systems. He added that the e-visa system would simplify the visa application process, reduce bureaucracy, support tourism, and position Ghana as a more attractive travel destination for business.

“The future of travel is digital, and Ghana must not be left behind,” he concluded.
