A fire outbreak at Madina Ritz Junction took a violent turn on Sunday afternoon when a gunman reportedly shot and injured at least 10 people.
The incident occurred as firefighters were on-site battling a blaze that ultimately destroyed over 50 structures.
One of the victims, Ernest Opare, who sustained bullet wounds to his forehead, back, and buttocks, is currently receiving treatment at Pentecost Hospital along with four others.
He told newsmen that a man known as “Area” arrived at the scene, visibly enraged, and began firing a pump-action shotgun indiscriminately into the crowd and the air.
Opare further alleged that police and fire officers were present but failed to restrain or arrest the shooter. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
The fire, which reportedly started at a washing bay in the area, displaced scores of residents. Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station responded swiftly, working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
