Chilling Evidence Found in Murder of Immigration Officer

CID Uncovers Forensic Clues in Stephen Amoah's Case; Suspect Charged with Murder

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has revealed chilling details in the suspected murder of Ghana Immigration Service officer, Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered on July 9, 2025.

During a press briefing on August 4, the CID’s Director-General, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, outlined the sequence of events that led to the arrest of the main suspect, Bright Aweh, who is now formally charged with murder.

According to investigators, Mr. Amoah went missing on July 3 after reportedly leaving home to meet Aweh, who had allegedly lured him with images of a large sum of cash to settle a debt. A missing person report was filed the next day when Amoah failed to return.

Aweh was arrested on July 6 after police noted inconsistencies in his story and raised questions about the origin of the GH¢500,000 he claimed to have given Amoah. Days later, a charred body, later confirmed to be Amoah’s, was found in a gutter near GBC Satellite.

Forensic searches of Aweh’s residence revealed a number of damning clues, including:

  • Blood stains and hastily cleaned surfaces.
  • Freshly sprayed walls.
  • A bloodied fufu pestle and a piece of camouflage cloth, both of which were hidden in nearby bushes.

Traces of blood were also found in Aweh’s vehicle. All items have been submitted for forensic testing, with DNA samples from Amoah’s family used to aid the profiling.

The case, initially investigated as a kidnapping, has now been escalated to murder. Aweh has been arraigned before the Adabraka District Court and is scheduled to reappear on August 8. CID officials have confirmed that a wider investigation is ongoing to uncover any potential accomplices, with DCOP Yaako assuring the public that the police are committed to ensuring justice for the slain officer.
