The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for its 2026 presidential primaries. Aspiring candidates have until August 28, 2025, to submit their nominations, accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of GHS100,000.
NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced on Tuesday, July 29, that the presidential primaries themselves are scheduled for January 31, 2026.
In a separate development, Frimpong took the opportunity to caution the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) against politicizing the ongoing chieftaincy tensions in Bawku.
He criticized what he described as “irresponsible” attempts to blame the NPP for the violence in the area, particularly ahead of the 2024 general elections.
