AG Drops Case Against Kwabena Duffuor, 7 Others After 60% Loss Recovery

A nolle prosequi has been entered in the case, effectively ending the trial.

The Attorney-General’s Office has discontinued the prosecution of former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and seven others in connection with alleged financial improprieties during Ghana’s financial sector clean-up.

A nolle prosequi has been entered in the case, effectively ending the trial.

According to the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, the decision was made after the accused persons met the recovery threshold of at least 60% of the alleged losses.

The Attorney-General’s Office stated that continuing the trial would no longer serve any additional public purpose and that discontinuing the case was deemed to be in the national interest.

The Attorney-General emphasized that this decision does not imply an absence of wrongdoing or a vindication of any conduct, but rather a pragmatic step to secure state resources.

The office reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and safeguarding the public purse.
