National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Joseph Yammin, has strongly denied allegations linking him to illegal mining activities, stating categorically that he does not own any mining site and that mining has never been part of his personal or political ambitions.
Speaking in an interview with Kojo Marfo on Abusua FM and monitored by Aboagye Frank Jackson, Yammin dismissed the claims as baseless and politically driven. He alleged that during his tenure as Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, a coalition of miners—some of whom were members of his own party—plotted his removal because of his firm stance against illegal mining.
“These same allegations were used to get my appointment terminated. I became a threat to them because I didn’t bend the rules,” Yammin said.
He also recounted his time as Head of the Anti-Galamsey Taskforce, where he claimed his strict approach to enforcing the law made him unpopular among those benefiting from illegal mining.
“I was never liked because I enforced the rules without compromise,” he noted, adding that his commitment to curbing illegal mining came at a personal cost within the political landscape.
