Mahama Appoints Two New DCE Nominees for Ashanti Region

Ibrahim Issahaq and Yakubu Issifu named for Atwima Mponua and Asante Mampong, pending local assembly approval

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated two new Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) for the Ashanti Region, subject to confirmation by their respective local assemblies.

The announcement, made through a statement from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Thursday, July 17, 2025, named:

  • Ibrahim Issahaq – Nominated for Atwima Mponua District Assembly

  • Yakubu Issifu – Nominated for Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly

The nominations were made in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

According to the statement signed by Minister Ahmed Ibrahim, these appointments form part of the Mahama administration’s commitment to strengthening local governance and enhancing district-level administration across the country.

The nominations will only take effect following the statutory approval of the respective assemblies.

The government says it expects the new nominees, if confirmed, to contribute significantly to grassroots development and effective decentralization.
