Police in the Bunkpurugu Yonyoo District of the North East Region have arrested four people suspected of being involved in the murder of a 70-year-old woman who was accused of witchcraft.
According to a police statement released on Tuesday, July 15, the suspects fled Sangbana village following the incident but were tracked and arrested at different locations through an intelligence-led operation. Authorities confirmed that additional suspects are still on the run.
The police say the suspects will be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
Law enforcement has also issued a strong warning to residents, urging them to refrain from making witchcraft accusations and engaging in acts of mob justice, which continue to endanger vulnerable individuals—especially elderly women.
