Lamine Yamal to Be Investigated Over Use of Dwarf Entertainers at Birthday Party

Disability rights group files complaint, prompting authorities to examine whether the incident violated anti-discrimination laws.

Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights has requested a formal investigation into Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal following reports that he hired individuals with dwarfism to perform at his 18th birthday celebration.

The party, held on Sunday at a rented estate in Olivella—approximately 50 kilometres northwest of Barcelona—was attended by YouTubers, influencers, and several of Yamal’s Barcelona teammates.

According to reports, the entertainment included performers with dwarfism, prompting backlash from disability advocacy groups. The Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain (ADEE) described the move as “unacceptable in the 21st century” and has filed a formal complaint.

In response, the Ministry of Social Rights told AFP that it has asked the prosecutor’s office to determine whether any laws were broken and whether the rights of people with disabilities were violated.

The ADEE issued a public statement condemning the act: “The hiring of people with dwarfism as part of entertainment perpetuates harmful stereotypes, fuels discrimination, and undermines the dignity and rights of individuals with disabilities.”

The association further stated that such actions not only contravene existing legislation but also conflict with the ethical standards of an inclusive and respectful society. Legal action is reportedly being considered.

Yamal, who reported for Barcelona’s pre-season training on Monday, has not yet commented on the allegations.
