NPP Deputy Organiser Chris Asamoah Assaulted During Ablekuma North Rerun

Violence disrupts voting in Ablekuma North as NPP official Chris Asamoah is assaulted during rerun elections.

Tensions flared on Friday at St. Peter’s Polling Station in Odorkor, Ablekuma North, as violence broke out during the parliamentary rerun, leaving New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy National Organiser Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah severely assaulted.

According to eyewitness accounts, chaos erupted when a group of unidentified individuals stormed the polling station, attacking several NPP members. Video footage circulating on social media shows Asamoah being dragged to the ground and subjected to repeated kicks and punches.

The assailants are alleged to be affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), though police have yet to confirm any arrests as investigations continue.

The incident disrupted voting, causing panic among voters and election officials. Voting was temporarily halted as authorities tried to restore order.

Reports also indicate that NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and former Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson were among those targeted during the altercation.

The Electoral Commission had organized the rerun across 19 polling stations in the constituency following disputes from the December 2024 general elections. However, the outbreak of violence has raised renewed concerns over electoral security and the integrity of the democratic process.
