Three invigilators supervising the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ashanti Region have been arrested and later granted bail for their alleged involvement in examination malpractice.
The individuals were apprehended at various examination centers, including Twedie and Mampong, following tip-offs that led to swift action by authorities.
According to Ernest Akoto Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the invigilators were allegedly found in possession of photocopied answer sheets and images of examination questions on their mobile phones. In some instances, candidates were also discovered with similar unauthorized materials, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the examination process.
Mr. Yeboah emphasized the severity of the situation, warning that such incidents pose a significant threat to the credibility of the BECE.
“We are preparing our report on these cases and have submitted it to our headquarters in Accra. The committee there will review the findings and determine the next course of action. Our role is to report — discussions on how to address this in the future will take place after the exams,” he said.
WAEC is expected to announce further actions following a thorough review of the submitted report.
