TVET Fund in Pipeline to Enhance Skills Development – Education Minister

TVET Fund expected to bridge youth skills gap and reduce unemployment

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has unveiled plans to create a dedicated fund aimed at attracting investment into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across Ghana.

TVET plays a vital role in Ghana’s education system by equipping learners with practical skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for securing jobs, starting businesses, and pursuing lifelong learning.

It serves both formal and informal sectors, making it a crucial strategy for reducing youth unemployment and enhancing national productivity.

However, the TVET sector faces ongoing challenges such as being viewed as a fallback option for weaker students, inconsistent funding, lack of modern equipment, outdated facilities, and a shortage of qualified trainers with limited professional development opportunities. Collaboration between training institutions and industry remains weak, further hampering progress.

Addressing Parliament on June 3, 2025, Minister Iddrisu revealed that he would soon present a proposal to Cabinet for the establishment of a Technical and Vocational Education Fund.

This fund is intended to increase financial support for TVET infrastructure and programs.

He also highlighted that this year’s GETFund budget already includes a dedicated allocation for TVET, marking a significant step toward strengthening the sector.
