Tullow Restarts Drilling Operations in Jubilee Field

Tullow’s new two-year drilling campaign follows a successful four-year effort

Tullow Ghana, together with its partners, has officially resumed drilling operations in the Jubilee Field, signaling a renewed wave of investment and optimism in Ghana’s energy landscape.

The fresh two-year drilling campaign, kicking off in May 2025, is geared toward ramping up oil production and boosting efficiency in one of West Africa’s cornerstone oil fields. This initiative follows the company’s successful four-year drilling effort, completed in December 2024, which delivered 18 wells ahead of time and under budget. That phase earned accolades for its exceptional safety, cost discipline, and execution.

The new programme will be rolled out in phases, beginning in May with subsequent operations slated for November and throughout 2026. Building on past achievements, Tullow is aiming to push the bar higher in drilling performance and management.

Jean-Médard Madama, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana, called the restart a key turning point.

“We see this as an exciting chapter in our journey,” he stated. “The restart of drilling underscores our enduring confidence in Ghana’s resources and the continued value the Jubilee Field can deliver—not just for our stakeholders, but for the people of Ghana.”

Even as the Jubilee Field transitions into a more mature phase of production, it remains a crucial asset for the country’s oil output and economic stability. The new campaign is expected to unlock additional value and sustain long-term production levels.

In preparation for the restart, Tullow recently carried out a 16-day maintenance operation to upgrade field systems and enhance reliability, reducing potential operational risks as drilling resumes.
