Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has issued a strong warning to Kenyan activists, cautioning them against interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
Her comments come after a group of Kenyan activists were reportedly prevented from attending a court appearance by Tanzanian opposition figure Tundu Lissu. The activists had travelled to show support for Lissu, a prominent opposition leader and vocal critic of the Tanzanian government.
President Samia described the move by the activists as unwelcome interference, emphasizing that Tanzania is a sovereign state with its own legal and political systems.
“Let them deal with their own issues at home. We do not meddle in the affairs of others and expect the same respect in return,” she said during a public address.
The president’s statement has sparked diplomatic and civil society debate across the region, with some defending cross-border solidarity on human rights issues, while others back Tanzania’s firm stance on national sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Tundu Lissu’s legal troubles continue to attract both domestic and international attention, with calls for fair treatment and judicial independence growing louder.
