National Security Launches Operation at Chairman Wontumi’s Kumasi Home

Fortified walls stall entry as armed officers surround the NPP regional chairman’s Kumasi residence

Tensions are mounting in Kumasi as about 10 heavily armed National Security operatives have reportedly surrounded the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to a live report, the operatives stormed the premises earlier today but have so far been unable to penetrate the interior of the house due to the extensive security and structure of the residence.

“The wall of Wontumi’s home is long and fortified, making entry difficult,” Franko reported.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the situation is rapidly escalating, with increasing numbers of NPP supporters and members of the Delta Force – a known pro-NPP vigilante group – arriving at the scene to show solidarity with Wontumi.

The National Security team has deployed drones in an attempt to ascertain whether Chairman Wontumi is inside the house. It remains unclear what prompted the operation, and no official statement has yet been released by either National Security or the Ghana Police Service.

In addition to the National Security operatives, about nine police officers have also been deployed to the residence, possibly to maintain public order as the crowd swells.
