Five years after the tragic murder of Mawutor Adzahli, the Sogakope Assembly Member, a landmark ruling has been delivered.
Richard Adikyere, the mastermind behind the 2020 murder and robbery, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Two of his accomplices, Emmanuel Hedzro and Stephen Adzibolo, were handed 47-year sentences each for their roles in the crime.
The shocking crime occurred on March 1, 2020, when Adikyere, Hedzro, and other gang members stormed Adzahli’s home in the dead of night, killing the assembly member with close-range gunshots before fleeing with a significant amount of money.
A post-mortem confirmed his death from severe head and chest injuries caused by the gunfire.
In addition to Adikyere, Hedzro, and Adzibolo, four other accomplices who had earlier pleaded guilty to their involvement in the robbery received 15-year sentences each.
The court emphasized the “heinous and callous” nature of the crimes, with Senior State Attorney Andrews Dodzi Adugu highlighting the premeditated nature of the murder.
Despite their conviction, a tense moment unfolded as Adikyere, handcuffed to Hedzro, tried to attack journalists outside the courtroom who attempted to photograph the defendants.
