President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the government is poised to release the first tranche of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the year.
This announcement comes in the wake of sharp criticism from the Minority, who accused the Finance Minister of deliberately delaying disbursements to essential government agencies despite having the funds and legal mandate to do so—nearly six months into the new administration.
While addressing supporters during his Thank-You tour in the Bono East Region on Friday, May 30, President Mahama issued a firm warning to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). He cautioned that misuse or mismanagement of the DACF could lead to their dismissal.
“The Finance Minister is about to release the first quarter of the Common Fund. Eighty percent of it will go directly to the regions for you to manage. So, MMDCEs, you have no excuse,” he emphasized.
Mahama added that detailed guidelines—approved at the most recent Cabinet meeting—will accompany the funds to ensure accountability. These guidelines will also serve as performance benchmarks, determining whether MMDCEs retain their positions.
The President is scheduled to continue his regional tour in the Bono Region on the same day.
