The Ashanti Regional Police have confirmed that Martin Amoah, also known as Baba Macho, has confessed to the killing of Patricia Nimako during a MoMo robbery at Krofrom.
The key suspect in the robbery and murder case admitted to his role in the crime during police interrogation, which was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses.
DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, revealed the details in an interview.
According to DSP Ahianyo, Baba Macho has taken responsibility for the killing of Nimako, admitting that he shot the victim during the robbery.
“After his arrest, Baba Macho led police officers to his hometown, Diaso, where they recovered the murder weapon used in the crime. The firearm has been submitted to the police forensic laboratory for ballistic testing to confirm its involvement in the killing.”
“The arrest and subsequent confession of Baba Macho have been significant in cracking this case,” DSP Ahianyo stated. “Since his capture, the security situation in the region has improved, and no further MoMo robberies have been reported.”
DSP Ahianyo confirmed that the suspect is currently on trial, with further proceedings expected in court. He assured the public that the police are working diligently to ensure that justice is served for all victims of the gang’s criminal activities.
The arrests of the MoMo robbery suspects have brought relief to the Ashanti Region, where mobile money vendors had been living in fear due to a surge in violent attacks. With the dismantling of the criminal group, the police are optimistic that peace and security will continue to improve in the area.
