GoldBod Extends Deadline for New Gold Trading License Transition to 21st June 2025

Deadline for Compliance with New Licensing Regime Extended to June 21, 2025; Old Licenses to Be Invalid Thereafter

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) wishes to inform the general public that, following numerous petitions from stakeholders, the deadline for transitioning to the new gold trading license regime has been extended from 21st May 2025 to 21st June 2025.

This means that individuals and companies currently operating under licenses issued by the now-defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and/or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources may continue to legally purchase and trade in gold with those licenses until 21st June 2025.

Important Clarifications:

  • After 21st June 2025, only valid GoldBod license holders will be permitted to purchase, sell, or trade in gold in Ghana.

  • Licenses previously issued by the PMMC or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources will no longer be valid for any gold trading activities after the deadline.

  • Continued use of these outdated licenses beyond 21st June 2025 will be considered a violation of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140) and will attract legal penalties.

Immediate Change to Export Rights:
Effective today, 22nd May 2025, all export rights attached to licenses issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources have been revoked. From now on, only the GoldBod, as a corporate entity, is authorized to export small-scale gold from Ghana.

Application Process:
All persons or entities interested in dealing in gold are encouraged to apply for a GoldBod license via the official website: www.goldbod.gov.gh.
While applications will still be accepted after the deadline, please note that no one without a GoldBod license will be permitted to operate in Ghana’s gold trade after 21st June 2025.

GoldBod appreciates the support and cooperation of all stakeholders and members of the public as we work to maximize national benefits from Ghana’s gold resources, in line with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama.
