The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a firm crackdown to ensure commercial drivers comply with the newly mandated 15% reduction in transport fares across the city.
Following reports that some drivers are ignoring the directive from national transport union leaders to reduce fares effective May 24, 2025, the assembly is stepping up enforcement efforts.
In partnership with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, KMA will deploy officers along key routes to monitor and enforce the new fare structure.
The assembly warned that non-compliance with the fare reduction is a criminal offense that will be prosecuted under the law.
“We appeal to the public for their support as we work together to bring fairness and order back to our roads,” the statement emphasized.
