Anti-Galamsey Taskforce Seizes 4 Excavators at Samreboi

Operation follows intelligence-led raid on illegal mining activities in Western Region

In a bold crackdown on illegal mining activities, a specialized anti-galamsey police taskforce has seized four excavators in the Western Region town of Samreboï.

Notably, two of the heavy-duty machines were allegedly being escorted by armed individuals suspected to be military personnel.

The operation, spearheaded by ASP Mr. Adorye, was triggered by reliable intelligence regarding the movement of mining equipment in the area.

Acting swiftly, officers intercepted two low-bed trucks, each carrying an excavator, just outside the Samreboï township.

Earlier the same day, the taskforce had stormed an illegal mining site in Akani, near Asankragua, where they arrested nine suspects and confiscated additional mining tools and machinery.

ACP Eric Asiedu, Director of Special Operations at the Police Headquarters, emphasized that the operation is part of an ongoing campaign to clamp down on galamsey and safeguard the nation’s natural resources.

All confiscated equipment is now in police custody, with investigations actively underway.
