Ghana Immigration Arrests 2,241 Foreign Beggars in Accra Sweep

Arrests made across 11 locations including Circle, Madina, and the Airport

In a large-scale operation across Accra, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 2,241 foreign nationals engaged in street begging.

The swoop, which took place on the morning of Friday, May 16, targeted 11 high-traffic areas including Kotoka International Airport, Madina, Kaneshie, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and Abossey Okai.

According to GIS Head of Public Relations, Michael Amoako-Atta, the arrested individuals include 384 adult men, 525 adult women, 577 boys, and 755 girls.

They are currently undergoing profiling, after which arrangements will be made to repatriate them to their home countries using buses provided by the service.

The Immigration Service emphasized that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to address potential national security concerns linked to unauthorized foreign activities within the capital.
