During a high-stakes meeting in Riyadh, former U.S. President Donald Trump presented five major demands to Syria’s transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
These directives are aimed at reshaping Syria’s regional role and boosting U.S. strategic interests:
-
Join the Abraham Accords – Trump urged Syria to formally normalize relations with Israel by signing onto the U.S.-brokered peace initiative.
-
Expel All Foreign Militants – He called for the immediate removal of all foreign fighters from Syrian territory.
-
Deport Palestinian Fighters – Trump specifically demanded that all so-called “Palestinian terrorists” be deported from the country.
-
Combat Islamic State Resurgence – Syria was asked to increase its cooperation with the U.S. in preventing a revival of the Islamic State group.
-
Manage ISIS Detention Centers – Finally, Trump asked the Syrian government to take full responsibility for detention facilities holding suspected ISIS fighters in the country’s northeast.
The demands come as the U.S. seeks to bolster its influence in the region and ensure the long-term defeat of extremist groups.
