Gold Smuggling Attempt Foiled in Eastern Region; Six Arrested

The arrests follow a crackdown on foreign nationals engaging in illegal gold trading, with authorities recovering gold bars, cash, and counting machines

In a coordinated effort, the Ghana Gold Board and National Security have successfully apprehended three Indian nationals for their involvement in illegal gold trading.

This brings the total number of foreign suspects arrested in recent operations to six.

The latest arrests were made in Anyinam, a town in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Law enforcement officers recovered several incriminating items, including gold bars, large sums of cash, and money-counting machines.

This bust follows a similar operation on April 29, 2025, where three other Indian nationals were arrested.

That incident occurred just before the Ghana Gold Board issued a directive for all foreign nationals to withdraw from the country’s gold trading sector.

Prince Minkah, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Gold Board, confirmed that the newly arrested suspects will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
