Fugitive Armed Robber ‘Baby Last’ Arrested in Ashanti Region

The 32-Year-Old Fugitive Finally Apprehended in April 2025, Ending Years of Pursuit

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended a notorious armed robbery suspect, Michael Owusu Ansah, widely known as “Baby Last,” who had been evading capture for nearly nine years.

Ansah, 32, was wanted for his alleged involvement in a robbery and the murder of Police Officer G/Cpl Frank Essel of the SWAT Unit in 2016. The tragic incident took place on May 19, 2016, at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso.

On May 14, 2025, Police PRO, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, announced that Ansah was arrested on April 22, 2025, by police intelligence officers, alongside four accomplices. During questioning, Ansah admitted to participating in multiple robberies across Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, Asuoyeboah, and surrounding areas.

The five suspects were brought before the Atasomanso Circuit Court on May 13, 2025, and were remanded into custody. They are scheduled for their next court appearance on June 4, 2025.

In a separate operation on May 8, 2025, police arrested three armed robbers—Umar Issah (26), Sherif Mohammed (20), and Abdul Jalelu (19)—who had attacked and robbed two residents in the Kenyasi area. The suspects, traveling on separate motorbikes, forcefully took mobile phones from the victims before fleeing. A police chase led to Sheriff Mohammed being injured by gunfire, and all three suspects are receiving treatment under police guard at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command continues to emphasize its dedication to tackling crime and ensuring public safety in the region.
