At least four people are feared dead and three others injured following a devastating road crash at Akyem Asafo along the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Monday, May 12, 2025.
The tragic incident involved two cargo trucks and a tipper truck, all reportedly heading towards Accra.
According to eyewitness Tweneboah Koduah, a cargo truck transporting cocoa developed a mechanical fault, bringing it to a halt. In a chaotic turn of events, another cargo truck slammed into the stalled vehicle, which was then struck by a third truck carrying market women.
The multiple collisions led to severe casualties and caused significant traffic congestion on the busy highway.
Authorities have advised travelers from Accra to use the Apedwa route, while those coming from Kumasi are urged to divert through Kibi to avoid the gridlock.
Emergency responders, including police and medical teams, are currently on the scene managing traffic and attending to the injured, who have been transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.
