Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has issued a strong call to the Electoral Commission (EC) to urgently present a clear plan for finalizing the long-pending collation of parliamentary results in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
Speaking ahead of a scheduled meeting with EC officials at the Police Headquarters on Thursday, May 8, Dr. Yohuno warned that continued delays could erode public trust and damage Ghana’s democratic reputation.
Ablekuma North is the only constituency still without a sitting Member of Parliament, months after the 2024 general elections, due to unresolved disputes over the vote count.
“The EC must provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a concrete roadmap for concluding the collation process,” the IGP stated.
He described the situation as highly sensitive, stressing that how the EC manages the issue will shape national perceptions of electoral fairness and transparency.
“This is a pivotal moment. The way we handle the collation in Ablekuma North will resonate throughout the country. It will influence not just this election, but the credibility of future democratic processes,” Dr. Yohuno said.
He also called on all stakeholders to prioritize peace and cooperation to ensure a swift and fair resolution.
“Let us protect more than just ballot boxes—we must safeguard public faith in our democratic institutions,” he urged.
