The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace to Bawku and surrounding communities, where a prolonged chieftaincy conflict continues to disrupt stability in the Upper East Region.
Speaking during a visit by members of the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course to the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene emphasized the crucial link between peace and national development, stating that traditional leaders must take responsibility in conflict mediation.
“To achieve development, we need peace. It is our duty as traditional leaders to help resolve conflicts and ensure a stable environment that allows government to deliver on its mandate,” he said.
Although earlier peace efforts had been temporarily derailed, Otumfuo expressed optimism about the current mediation process, assuring that steps are being taken to ensure a permanent and peaceful resolution to the tensions in Bawku.
Referring to recent unrest near Ghana’s northern border with Burkina Faso, he noted that his role in the peace process remains active and unwavering.
“Though there have been recent disturbances in Bawku, we are doing everything possible to ensure a permanent and peaceful solution,” he added.
The Asantehene’s continued involvement in the conflict underscores the importance of traditional leadership in maintaining national unity and promoting long-term stability.
