Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2024/25 season, bringing an end to a remarkable 20-year association with the club. While the 26-year-old did not officially reveal his next destination, speculation is mounting over a potential move to Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold made the announcement via his social media platforms on Monday, just days after helping Liverpool clinch their second Premier League title during his time at the club.
“This club has been my whole life—my whole world—for 20 years,” he wrote. “From the academy right through until now, the support and love I’ve felt from everyone inside and outside the club will stay with me forever.”
Describing the move as “easily the hardest decision” of his life, the England right back said his departure was motivated by the desire to embrace a new challenge and step outside his comfort zone.
“I’ve never known anything else. This decision is about experiencing something new—pushing myself professionally and personally,” he added. “I’ve given my all every single day at this club, and I hope you feel I’ve given something back.”
Since breaking into Liverpool’s first team, Alexander-Arnold has become one of the most decorated and influential full-backs in the modern game. A product of the club’s academy, he has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s successes under Jürgen Klopp, including Champions League and Premier League triumphs.
His next destination remains unconfirmed, but reports strongly link him with a summer move to Real Madrid, where he would join former teammate Jude Bellingham and potentially replace Dani Carvajal.
Liverpool are expected to honour his departure with a tribute at Anfield on the final day of the season.
