Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has strongly condemned the politicization of the Bawku crisis in the Upper East Region.
During his speech at the NPP’s national Thank You Tour in the Western North Region on Tuesday, he expressed deep concern over how some politicians have exploited the conflict to serve their personal agendas at the expense of lasting peace. He described this exploitation as “unfortunate.”
Dr. Bawumia lamented how certain individuals used the situation to falsely accuse him of inciting violence, claiming he was arming Mamprusis to harm the Kusasis. He expressed his disappointment that even some within his own party, the NPP, were misled by these fabrications.
“The politicization of the Bawku crisis is harmful, as it undermines the peace and stability of the region,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “The lies spread against me have now been exposed, and it’s clear that the NDC used this crisis for political advantage.”
He emphasized that time has revealed the truth, with many now seeing through the false claims made by the NDC. The former Vice President called for a lesson to be learned: that the Bawku issue should never again be used for political manipulation.
In his call for lasting peace, Dr. Bawumia urged all politicians to avoid using chieftaincy disputes or regional conflicts for political gain. He reiterated his personal commitment to peace and expressed hope that the mediation efforts led by Otumfuo would restore tranquility to Bawku.
