The Ghana Police Service, in coordination with Nigerian law enforcement, is arranging for the safe transfer of two kidnapping victims and the suspects involved back to Ghana.
This follows a high-profile case that gained attention after a distressing video of the victims circulated widely on social media, igniting public outrage.
The successful rescue operation—carried out by the Ghana Police Service, National Signals Bureau (NSB), and Nigeria Police Force—led to the arrest of eight individuals believed to be connected to the abduction. The suspects were apprehended in various locations across both countries through a coordinated, cross-border operation.
At a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, May 7, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), confirmed ongoing efforts to return both the victims and suspects to Ghana for further investigation.
“As of today, the victims and suspects are in the custody of Nigerian authorities. Arrangements are underway for their transportation and extradition to Ghana,” DCOP Donkor stated.
She also disclosed that the victims’ families had paid a total of GHS18,000 to multiple phone numbers in response to ransom demands. Fortunately, both victims have undergone medical evaluations and are reported to be in stable condition.
