Athletic Club has confirmed that Iñaki Williams will not be part of the squad for Thursday’s second leg of their Europa League semifinal against Manchester United.
The club announced on Wednesday that the Ghanaian forward will be sidelined due to a muscle injury in the common tendon of his right hamstring.
“Iñaki Williams has not been called up for the second leg of the Europa League semifinal due to a muscle injury in his right hamstring. His recovery will be closely monitored,” the club stated.
The 30-year-old forward was substituted in Athletic Club’s recent La Liga match against Real Sociedad on Sunday after 62 minutes of play.
Williams has been one of the club’s standout performers in the Europa League this season, scoring five goals, a tally that places him as joint top scorer for the team alongside his brother, Nico Williams. However, Nico also misses out on the squad for the upcoming fixture.
With Manchester United holding a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg in Spain, Athletic Club faces a tough challenge in their pursuit of a comeback at Old Trafford.
