Bissue & Owusu Granted GHC200k Bail Each in High-Profile Corruption Case Linked to Illegal Mining

Ex-IMCIM Secretary and associate deny corruption charges tied to illegal mining; court sets strict bail terms ahead of May 29 hearing

The Accra High Court has granted bail to Charles Bissue and Andy Thomas Owusu, each in the sum of GHC200,000, in connection with a corruption case involving illegal mining activities. The bail terms require two sureties each, with one surety to be justified.

The pair face 15 charges related to corruption, including the alleged abuse of office for personal gain. Both Bissue and Owusu have pleaded not guilty. As part of the bail conditions, they must surrender their passports to the court and report monthly to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The case, which stems from charges filed by the OSP, has been adjourned to May 29. Charles Bissue, formerly the Secretary to the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), is accused of receiving a GHC15,000 bribe through Andy Owusu from one Benjamin Adjapong in January 2019 to improperly influence his official duties.
