Mahama Launches ‘Adwumawura Programme’ in Kumasi to Tackle Youth Unemployment
Initiative aims to support 10,000 new businesses each year and promote sustainable youth entrepreneurship

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Adwumawura Programme, a bold new initiative aimed at curbing youth unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship across Ghana.
The official launch took place on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of young entrepreneurs, government officials, and community leaders.
The Adwumawura Programme is designed to support the establishment of over 10,000 businesses annually, with a special focus on youth between the ages of 18 and 35. It offers a comprehensive package of support including skills training, mentorship, access to start-up capital, and essential business tools to help young people build sustainable and successful ventures.
Speaking at the event, President Mahama described youth unemployment as one of Ghana’s most pressing issues. He emphasized that empowering young people through entrepreneurship is central to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s economic vision. “We cannot build a strong and inclusive economy without addressing the needs of our youth,” he stated.
The programme is backed by a GH₵100 million allocation from the 2025 national budget, underscoring the government’s commitment to long-term job creation and inclusive growth. Adwumawura is part of a broader national strategy that also includes the soon-to-be-launched National Apprenticeship Programme, which will offer free technical and vocational training to young Ghanaians.
Youth Development and Empowerment Minister, George Opare Addo, also addressed the gathering, urging the youth to seize the opportunity and turn their ideas into businesses that can shape Ghana’s future.
With the Adwumawura Programme, the government hopes to spark a new wave of innovation, job creation, and economic resilience—powered by the energy and ambition of Ghana’s young people.
