Lapaz Shop Owner Hospitalized After Witnessing Fire Destroy Business

A fire broke out at a textile shop in the Lapaz Market in Accra on Sunday, April 27, leaving one person hospitalized.
The blaze started on the top floor of the building, destroying bedding materials and other goods worth millions of cedis. A young woman, who is the shop owner, reportedly collapsed when she saw the flames and was rushed to the Lapaz Community Hospital for treatment.
Firefighters from the Abelenkpe branch of the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring shops.
The victim’s mother, who co-owns the shop, shared that she was on the ground floor when her grandchild alerted her to the fire.
ADO I Emmanuel Akwetey, Operations Officer at the Abelenkpe GNFS, stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. He added that efforts are ongoing to determine the exact cause, and the shop owner will be invited to the station once the investigation is complete.
“We did our best to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding stores. Our team is still conducting investigations, and the owner will be informed of the findings in due course,” he said.
