South Africa Setting the Pace in African Football – Maxwell Konadu

Former Ghana Coach Hails South Africa’s Football Infrastructure and Development Strategy

Renowned Ghanaian coach Maxwell Konadu has praised South Africa for its forward-thinking approach to football development, describing the country as a continental trailblazer.

Speaking in an interview, Konadu highlighted South Africa’s impressive strides in infrastructure, youth development, and governance, noting that its model is one that other African nations should emulate.

“It’s a great place. Everything they’re doing—from infrastructure to organization—is pointing the way for the rest of Africa,” Konadu said. “Now we’re seeing Morocco doing the same, and hopefully, this wave of development will spread across the continent.”

Konadu’s comments carry weight, given his extensive experience in African football. The former Black Stars assistant coach has held various national and club roles, including a stint in South Africa as head coach of Black Leopards. Most recently, he led Ghana Premier League side Nsoatreman FC to a historic MTN FA Cup victory in 2024, also securing a fourth-place league finish.

With a reputation for tactical insight and talent development, Konadu’s endorsement of South Africa’s football system underscores the growing call for African nations to prioritize long-term investment in the sport.
