Ghana Has What It Takes to Shine at 2026 World Cup – Maxwell Konadu

Ex-Black Stars Coach Bullish on World Cup Chances

Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu is optimistic about Ghana’s prospects at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing strong belief that the national team has what it takes to progress beyond the group stages.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, the experienced coach praised the current crop of players, noting their presence in top-tier European leagues as a sign of their quality and readiness to take on the world’s best.

“We have top players. Not all of them are at elite clubs, but many are in competitive European leagues—and that speaks volumes,” Konadu said. “With the right mindset and preparation, we can go far.”

Konadu highlighted Ghana’s recent victory over Chad in the World Cup qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium as a turning point. Following the disappointment of missing out on AFCON 2026, the win has reignited belief among fans and players alike.

“That win was crucial. It restored faith in the team and gave everyone a reason to believe in our World Cup dream again,” he noted.

He emphasized that the growing support from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), government, and fans plays a vital role in boosting player morale and performance.

“When players feel the entire nation is behind them, it lifts them. But without that unity, even the most talented squad can struggle,” he warned.

Konadu also stressed the importance of harmony within the team’s leadership and technical bench, warning that internal divisions can derail even the most promising campaigns.

Drawing from conversations with fellow coaches across the continent, he revealed that many view Ghana as Africa’s strongest contender at the 2026 World Cup.

“Coaches from other countries believe Ghana can go far. They know the talent is there—it’s just about putting it all together,” he said. “If we get it right, Ghana can lead Africa to glory.”

Konadu, who has managed top local sides like Asante Kotoko, Legon Cities, and All Stars, remains hopeful that with unity and focus, the Black Stars can exceed expectations on football’s biggest stage.
