The call comes after renewed tensions and violence

The Overlord of Mamprugu, Na Bohaga Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, has urged the government to take immediate action to end armed violence and protect his people in the Bawku Traditional Area of the Upper East region.

The call comes after renewed tensions and violence between Kusasi youth and Ghana Police Service personnel, resulting in the deaths of two police officers and injuries to others.

*The Crisis in Bawku:*

The violence was sparked by accusations of police bias, with Kusasi youth claiming the police favored other groups.

This led to protests, attacks on police stations, and destruction of property. The Inspector General of Police’s vehicle was also damaged during a visit to the area.

The Mamprugu overlord has made several recommendations to restore law and order:

– *Increase Security Presence*: Deploy more personnel to maintain law and order.
– *Empower Security Forces*: Ensure they operate without undue political interference.
– *Address Logistics Concerns*: Provide necessary resources to support security operations.

The Nayiri’s statement emphasizes the need for decisive action to restore peace and stability in the region
