Raducanu Content with ‘Informal’ Coaching Arrangement
British star enjoying flexible partnership with Mark Petchey ahead of Madrid Open return

Emma Raducanu has decided to pause her search for a permanent coach, saying she’s comfortable with the current “informal” coaching setup as her part-time collaboration with Mark Petchey continues.
Petchey, a familiar figure in British tennis and former coach to Andy Murray, joined Raducanu’s team on a casual basis during the Miami Open last month. With him in her corner, the 22-year-old delivered her strongest performance of the season, reaching the quarter-finals and climbing back into the world’s top 50.
Following her success in Miami, Raducanu had hoped to work with Petchey more consistently. However, his existing broadcasting commitments have made a full-time role unfeasible.
As she gears up for her return to the tour at this week’s Madrid Open after a month-long break, Raducanu confirmed that Petchey would be supporting her at the WTA 1000 clay event when his schedule allows.
“I’m happy with the set-up going forward right now — it’s been working well,” said Raducanu, currently ranked 49th in the world.
“I really like working with him. I’ve known him since before the US Open [win in 2021], so it’s nice having familiar faces around.”
