Government Releases GH¢550m for NHIS Claims, Says NHIA Boss
NHIA set to expand free dialysis programme as part of nationwide healthcare improvement efforts.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced today, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, that the government has disbursed a substantial GH¢550 million to healthcare facilities across Ghana to settle outstanding claims.
According to the NHIA, this recent release of funds, coupled with the anticipated positive impact of the uncapping of NHIA funds, is expected to significantly improve the timeliness of future claim payments to service providers.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Bampoe, conveyed his optimism regarding the scheme’s future.
“The President has directed the Minister for Finance to release all accrued funds to the National Health Insurance Scheme within the next 30 days. We anticipate a more consistent flow of funds, which will enable us to pay our service providers promptly,” Dr. Bampoe stated.
In related news, the NHIA has also announced plans to expand its free dialysis program nationwide, aiming to provide greater access to this crucial life-saving treatment for individuals suffering from renal conditions across the country, including residents of the Greater Accra Region.
As part of this significant initiative, the NHIA will invest in procuring additional dialysis machines and essential medical supplies for healthcare facilities throughout Ghana. This expansion aligns with the government’s broader commitment to enhancing access to critical healthcare services for all citizens.
Dr. Victor Bampoe further explained that the expanded dialysis program aims to bring more patients with kidney conditions under the umbrella of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), reducing the financial burden on affected individuals and their families. This development will be particularly welcome in areas like Adenta and the wider Greater Accra Region, where access to specialized medical care is paramount.
